Well it's safe to say no one was expecting James Nesbitt to pull out a gun on Ian McElhinney! Of course, we're talking about the epic cliffhanger moment from episode two of BBC's latest thriller Bloodlands.

Over the last three weeks, we’ve watched as DCI Tom Brannick, played by James Nesbitt, searched for a serial killer named Goliath, suspected of killing his wife and three other victims on both sides of the Good Friday Agreement back in 1998.

In true Line of Duty style, we've been gripped each week, piecing together our own theories as to who the killer might be. We've got so many questions, which will hopefully be answered in this weekend's finale, Sunday at 9pm on BBC One.

There are a host of potential suspects, as more and more of the show’s cast are revealed to have clear connections to the Goliath murders.

Who could Goliath be?

DCI Tom Brannick

Could Tom and his wife Emma's affair be at the root of this entire investigation? We know he's now a killer, who seems quite good at covering things up. He's obsessed with keeping Dr. Tori Matthew's findings a secret, but why? Could there be something hidden there that will incriminate him?

DCS Jackie Twomey

Yes his lonely caravan and burner phone are suspicious, but is it really that simple? Fingers have been pointed towards Jackie Twomey since the beginning - why did he feel the need to takeover from Superintendent McAllister? Did he want to stay close to try to tamper with evidence or protect someone else?

Emma Brannick

Emma's role in military intelligence would suggest she could pull off such a delicate and elaborate job. Every time Emma's name is mentioned Tom shudders, does he maybe know something we don't yet? Are Tom and Emma working as some sort of undercover assassin team...Mr & Mrs Smith style?

Dinger

Dinger is the final suspect who is still working in the police service right now. Niamh did question him in the last episode, and he suggested Emma as a potential suspect because of her intelligence background. But could he be trying to cover his tracks - he knew about the affair, so perhaps he was standing up for a friend 😜

Claire Keenan

Claire gave us the quote of the century when asked about a bathroom in episode one, but has stayed quiet since. Might there be a link between her husband's kidnapping and Goliath?

Dr. Tori Matthews

What a woman - full time doctor, mentor, teacher and now sleuth too. She may have kidnapped Keenan, but this was to relaunch the Goliath investigation. If she really was Goliath, it wouldn't make much sense for her to blow her cover like that.

Billy ‘Birdy’ Bird

Just throwing it out there, but could Brannick's right-hand man have something to do with Goliath? He is their trusted source, bringing his vast research skills to the team At this point...everyone is a suspect!

Bloodlands concludes this Sunday, 14th March at 9pm on BBC One.
