There's calls for increased government money for suicide awareness, following reports 15 people have taken their lives in Belfast in 10 days.

Northern Ireland has the highest suicide rates across the whole of the UK and most of Europe.

However, charity AWARE say there's a lack of funding when it comes to tackling the issue.

According to figures from the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency, it is more prevalent among young men than women here.

AWARE CEO Karen Collins says the recent figures are shocking.

"It's a horrific statistic and unfortunately, Northern Ireland has been experienced an average of 300 suicides every year for the past 15 years.

"And of course there's a family and friends behind that, who have been affected and traumatised by what they have experienced also."

She told our Special Correspondent Sasha Wylie there's still a stigma when it comes to talking about mental health.

AWARE deliver mental health and well being programmes into communities, schools, colleges, universities and workplaces.
