Having sold over 100 million records, Shania is one of the best-selling artists of all time in addition to being the best-selling female artist in country music history.
Twain released her new album, Queen of Me, on February 3rd 2023. It notably stands out as her sixth original full-length offering and first record since 2017 and reached the number one chart position in the UK.
Her recently released blockbuster, career-spanning Netflix documentary, Not Just A Girl, was praised by NME, The i, Stylist and more for reminding audiences of her status as a cultural icon and music industry pioneer.

'Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?'
'Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?' was released in January 1995 as the first single from Shania's second studio album, 'The Woman In Me'. It was the first single that Shania co-wrote with her ex-husband Robert John 'Mutt' Lange and became her first hit on country radio, peaking at Number 11 on the US Hot Country Songs Chart. The song has been certified Gold in the United States.
The song tells the story of a woman who realises that her partner is cheating on her, with lyrics including 'I know I'm not the only girl you run to' and 'Whose bed have your boots been under? / And whose heart did you steal I wonder?'

'Any Man of Mine'
'Any Man of Mine' was released in April 1995 and is the second single from her second album 'The Woman In Me'. The song reached Number 1 on the US Hot Country Songs Chart and is certified 2x Platinum in the United States.
In the song, Shania expresses what she wants in a man, which can be seen in lyrics such as: 'Any man of mine better be proud of me, even when I'm ugly he still better love me.'

‘The Woman in Me (Needs the Man in You)’
The third single and title track from 'The Woman in Me', this song was released in August 1995. Shania has performed it on the 'Up!' tour, in a video interlude on the 'Now' tour and in a medley on the 'Come On Over' tour. The music video for the song was shot in Egypt and sees Shania riding on a horse through the desert and riding a boat down the Nile River.
The song tells the story of a woman's longing for a man, with lyrics including: 'When the world wants too much, and it feels cold and out of touch / It's a beautiful place, when you kiss my face.'

‘(If You’re Not in It for Love) I’m Outta Here!’
This was the fourth single from 'The Woman in Me' and was released in November 1995. The song has been included in Shania's 2004 'Greatest Hits' album and has been performed on all of her tours so far. The song topped the US Hot Country Songs chart.
The song was performed as the last main song on the setlist on Shania's 'Come on Over' and 'Up!' tours. In each city she visited, Shania invited a school marching band to join her on stage for the song.

‘You Win My Love'
'You Win My Love' was the fifth single from 'The Woman in Me' and was released in January 1996. The accompanying music video was filmed in Orlando, Florida and is set at a race track.
The song is about a woman who is looking for a romantic partner, with lyrics including: 'Cause I'm a classy little chassis who's a-huntin' for a heart to win' and 'I want a heartbreak Harley / A full of steam dream machine.'

‘You’re Still The One’
'You're Still the One' features on Shania's third studio album, 'Come On Over' and was released in February 1998 as the third single from the album. The song won two Grammy Awards in 1999 in the categories of Best Country Song and Best Female Country Vocal Performance, as well as being nominated in the Record of the Year and Song of the Year categories.
The song reached Number 10 on the UK Singles Chart and is certified Platinum. 'You're Still the One' was a crossover success, proving popular with both country and pop fans. In an interview with Glamour, Shania said that 'You're Still The One' was her favourite song to perform live in Vegas, as she was doing a performance on a horse, which was a 'fantasy come to life every night.'
She said: "I wanted to incorporate my favourite things in the show, so I would be around it every night and with elements that I related to very personally and directly, and horses are something that are a passion of mine"
At the time of the song's release, Shania described the song as being about 'the kind of triumph you feel when you have a successful relationship and you win against the odds.'

'From This Moment On'
'From This Moment On' was released in May 1998 and was the fourth single to be released from 'Come On Over'. It was released as a duet with backup singer Bryan White in addition to as a solo single. In the UK, it charted at Number 9 and is certified Gold. Shania described the look she sported in the music video as her favourite in an interview with Glamour. She said: "I think 'From This Moment On' was probably my favourite look. I just loved that whole elegance of that look and the wet sort of style and the slicked-back hair. The whole look is hard to do onstage because it's hard to do, so it was more unique for a ballad, so I guess I enjoyed that one a lot."
The song is about promising to love your partner, as seen in lyrics such as: 'From this moment, as long as I live / I will love you, I promise you this.'

'When'
Released in June 1998, 'When' was the second UK release and fifth single from 'Come On Over'. The song charted at Number 18 in the UK and became Shania's second Top 20 single. The song describes the aftermath of a relationship ending, with lyrics such as 'When will I wake up? Why did we break up? When will we make up?'

‘That Don’t Impress Me Much’
Released in December 1998, 'That Don't Impress Me Much' reached Number 3 on the UK Singles Chart. It has gone on to be Certified 2 x Platinum. The song became one of Shania's biggest hits and has appeared in all of her tours so far.
Shania later revealed why she used Brad Pitt's name in the song, explaining that it was inspired by a scandal between Brad and Gwyneth Paltrow. As reported by Billboard, she said: "I remember I had a girl friend visiting me and it was near Christmas and we were baking cookies. I was writing this album and there was a scandal of (Pitt) and Gwyneth (Paltrow) where there was naked photos of him (in Playgirl magazine, which Pitt later successfully sued for publishing the paparazzi photos). And this was like all the rage. I just thought 'I don't know what all the fuss is about.' I'm like, well that don't impress me much, I mean what is all the fuss. We see people naked every day. That's really what I thought. I wasn't picking on Brad Pitt. But that was just the association in that moment and things we make fusses about and whatever. Of course, it could have been any gorgeous guy."

‘Man! I Feel Like a Woman!’
A huge hit for Shania, 'Man! I Feel Like a Woman!' was released in March 1999 on North American Country radio and then was released worldwide later that year. The song features on Shania's third studio album, 'Come on Over'. The song was the opener during Shania's 2003 Super Bowl Half-Time Show performance. It charted at Number Three in the UK and is Certified Platinum.
Speaking to Billboard, Shania said: "That song started with the title, then it kind of wrote itself. The whole expression is a celebration of being a woman these days, I think we're kind of spoiled in a lot of ways, with the advantages we have. Feminists may not feel that way, but I do. It's pretty darn fun to be a woman."
The music video was filmed in New York City and directed by Paul Boyd. It is a role-reversal of Robert Palmer's 'Addicted to Love' and 'Simply Irresistible' videos. In the video, Shania can be seen to stand in front of a group of men who are playing instruments.

‘Come On Over’
The title track from Shania's third album, this song was released in September 1999. It went on to win the Grammy Award for Best Country Song in 2000. It was performed on the 'Come On Over' Tour, 'Now' Tour and in a medley on the 'Up!' Tour.
In the song, Shania tells listeners to relax and be in the moment, as heard in lyrics such as: 'Come on over, come on in / You can unwind, take a load off your mind.'

‘I’m Gonna Getcha Good!’
Released in the UK in November 2002, this was the first single from Shania's fourth album 'Up!' The music video was shot in London and is based in a futuristic dystopian setting. The song reached Number 4 on the UK Singles Chart and is Certified Silver.
The lyrics tell the story of a woman who is determined to get the man she desires. This can be seen in lyrics such as: 'You can bet your bottom dollar in time, you're gonna be mine.'

‘Ka-Ching!’
'Ka-Ching!' was released in the UK in March 2003 and reached Number 8 on the UK Singles Chart. The song was one of Shania's biggest singles in Europe and became her sixth consecutive and seventh overall Top 10 single in the UK.
The song's theme focuses on consumerism, starting with the sound of a cash register and featuring lyrics such as: 'We've created us a credit card mess, we spend the money that we don't possess.'

‘Forever and for Always’
This song from 'Up!' was released in the UK in June 2003. It was nominated for two Grammy awards in 2004, in the categories of Best Country Song and Best Female Country Vocal Performance. It reached Number 6 on the UK Singles Chart.
Shania had said that she had been inspired by people who had started relationships when they were young and are still in love when they got older. The lyrics include: 'Cause I'm keepin' you forever and for always, we will be together all of our days.'

‘Up!’
'Up!' is the title track on Shania's fourth album. It was released as a double A-side single with 'When You Kiss Me' to the UK exclusively in November 2003 – charting at Number 21.
The song is about recognising that things may be difficult, but that they will get better. This can be seen in lyrics such as: 'When everything is goin' wrong, don't worry it won't last for long / Yeah it's all gonna come around, don't go let it get you down.'

‘When You Kiss Me’
'When You Kiss Me' was released in November 2003 and featured on Shania's fourth album, 'Up!'. In the UK, it was released as a double-A side with 'Up!' and charted at Number 21 on the UK Singles Chart.
The romantic song includes lyrics such as: 'And when you're with me, the world just goes away.'

‘Party for Two’
'Party for Two' was the lead single off Shania's 'Greatest Hits' album and was released in the UK in November 2004. The song reached Number 10 on the UK Singles Chart. 'Party for Two' was released as two versions – a pop version for international audiences which featured Sugar Ray frontman Mark McGrath, and a country version for North American Country radio featuring Billy Currington.
The duet includes lyrics such as: 'It doesn't matter what you wear, cause it's only gonna be you and me there.'

‘Today Is Your Day’
This was Shania's first song release in over six years and was released in June 2011. The song was written by Shania to accompany her documentary TV series, Why Not? With Shania Twain. The song came after Shania developed dysphonia, which is a vocal impairment.
Shania has previously said that she wrote the song after repeating to herself: "Today is your day! You can do it!"

‘Endless Love’ (Lionel Richie featuring Shania Twain)
Lionel Richie re-recorded his song 'Endless Love' as a duet with Shania, which was released in February 2012. The song was the lead single on his album 'Tuskegee' and the process of recording it featured in Shania's documentary, Why Not? With Shania Twain.

‘Life’s About to Get Good’
Shania's first single release in five years and the lead single from her fifth album 'Now', 'Life's About to Get Good' was released in June 2017. The song was accompanied by a music video, which was shot in the Dominican Republic and featured references to some of Shania's iconic music video outfits – including the ones she wore in the videos for 'Man! I Feel Like a Woman!' and 'That Don't Impress Me Much!'
The song is about recovering from heartbreak and moving forward, which can be seen in the lyrics: 'I'm ready to be loved, and love the way I should. / Life's about, life's about to get good.'

'Swingin’ with My Eyes Closed’
'Swingin' With My Eyes Closed' was released in August 2017 and is the second single from Shania's 'Now' album. Shania performed the track as part of her set at the Opening Ceremony of the US Open tennis tournament on 28th August 2017.
The song is about fighting back against pain. Shania told Rolling Stone: "The fighter in me wrote that song. I was thinking of a boxer taking a swing, or a baby first coming out with his eyes and fists closed. They can't even see yet and they're swinging with their eyes closed."

‘hole in the bottle’ (Kelsea Ballerini featuring Shania Twain)
Shania featured on a remix of American country star Kelsea Ballerini's song 'hole in the bottle'. The remix including Shania was released in November 2020. Speaking about the collaboration, Kelsea said: "They say don't meet your heroes, unless your hero is Shania Twain."
The song is about getting over a breakup by drinking wine, seen in lyrics such as: 'Honey, no, I don't miss him / In fact, it slipped my mind / There's a hole in the bottle of wine.'

Forever And Ever, Amen (Ronan Keating with Shania Twain)
In February 2021, Shania teamed up with Ronan Keating to release a version of Randy Travis' 1987 country track 'Forever and Ever, Amen'. The song featured on Ronan's 11th studio album 'Twenty Twenty'.
As reported by UDiscoverMusic, Ronan spoke about the collaboration and said: "Shania and I were meant to do something together 20 years ago on one of her songs, 'From This Moment.' That never came about, so it felt especially right to reach out now. 'Forever And Ever, Amen' is a true country gem so to team up with the original writers and producer of 'Nothing At All,' twenty years on makes it all the more special."

‘Waking Up Dreaming’
'Waking Up Dreaming' was released in September 2022 and is the lead single from Shania's sixth studio album, 'Queen of Me'. The song was the first single of Shania's to be released via the new record label Republic Nashville. Shania debuted the song as part of a medley during her performance at the People's Choice Awards 2022, where she received the music icon award. The song reached Number 18 in the UK Singles Chart.
The song is about the thrill of being in love, with lyrics such as: 'There ain't no shaking this feelin', tonight we're makin' our way to Mars.'

'Giddy Up!'
Released in January 2023, 'Giddy Up!' was the second single to be released from 'Queen of Me'. The song charted at Number 27 in the UK. Shania revealed that she wanted the phrase 'Giddy Up!' to be fun and create a similar response to her iconic 'Let's Go Girls!' line from 'Man! I Feel Like a Woman!'
The song is about the importance of living in the moment, with lyrics such as: 'Life is getting shorter, gotta drink it up / Time to shine like you know I should.'

‘Unhealthy’ (Anne-Marie featuring Shania Twain)
Shania teamed up with pop singer Anne-Marie to release the single 'Unhealthy' in May 2023. The song was the fourth single from Anne-Marie's third studio album of the same name. 'Unhealthy' reached Number 18 on the UK Singles Chart, becoming Shania's 12th UK Top 20. Anne-Marie revealed that she reached out to Shania in the hope that she'd feature on the track, with the pair then recording the vocals in London. The song was accompanied by a music video which has an old western theme. The song has been Certified Silver in the UK.
The song is about having a pull to an unhealthy relationship, as seen in lyrics such as: 'All my friends, they say say you're bad for me / Guess they never felt the high we're on right now.'

Early life and career
Shania was born Eilleen Regina Edwards. Her parents divorced when she was two-years-old and her mother married Jerry Twain - who adopted Shania and her two sisters. After signing with Mercury Nashville in 1992, the label didn't think that Eilleen Twain flowed as a stage name, leading her to change it to Shania.
Shania pursued singing and songwriting from a young age and was invited to perform on CBC's Tommy Hunter show at the age of 13. Whilst at school, Shania was the singer for a local band named Longshot, who performed covers. After graduating from Timmins High in June 1983, Shania was approached by a cover band called 'Flirt', which was led by Canadian country artist Diane Chase. Shania joined the band and toured around Ontario with them.
1993 - Shania releases her debut album
After signing with Mercury Nashville in 1992, Shania released her debut, self-titled album in April 1993. Prior to its release, Shania sang backing vocals for other artists.
The album featured the singles 'What Made You Say That', 'Dance With The One That Brought You' and 'You Lay A Whole Lot Of Love On Me'. Despite not achieving commercial success at the time of its release, following the success of Shania's subsequent albums, interest in the album grew and it is now certified Silver in the UK.
1995 - Shania releases second album 'The Woman In Me'
In February 1995, Shania released her second studio album, 'The Woman In Me.' It was the first to be produced by her long-time collaborator and ex-husband Robert John 'Mutt' Lange. The album went on to sell an estimated 20 million copies worldwide and included tracks such as 'You Win My Love', 'Any Man of Mine' and 'Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?'
1996 - Shania wins her first Grammy Award
In 1996, Shania won the Best Country Album Grammy award for her album 'The Woman In Me', this was her first Grammy Award. In the same year, Shania was also nominated for Best New Artist and Best Country Song and Best Female Country Vocal Performance for 'Any Man of Mine.'
'The Woman In Me' also won Album of the Year at the Academy of Country Music Awards in 1996 in addition to picking up three gongs at the Canadian Country Music Association Awards.
1997 - Shania releases her third album
Shania released her hugely successful third album 'Come On Over' in November 1997. The album is recognised by Guinness World Records as the biggest-selling studio album by a solo female artist, selling over 40 million copies.
The album includes the singles 'You're Still The One', 'From This Moment On' and 'That Don't Impress Me Much' and is certified 11 x Platinum in the UK. Following its release, 'Come On Over' was nominated for Album of the Year and Best Country Album at the Grammy Awards in 1999.
1999 - Shania wins more Grammy awards
Shania enjoyed more success at the Grammy awards in 1999, where she won Best Country Song and Best Female Country Vocal Performance for her huge hit 'You're Still The One.'
Then, one year later in 2000, Shania enjoyed further success at the Grammys, winning Best Country Song for 'Come On Over' and Best Female Country Vocal Performance for 'Man! I Feel Like A Woman!'
2002 - Shania releases her fourth album
Shania's fourth album 'Up!' was released in November 2002. Three versions were released – a country version, pop version and a version in the style of Indian film music. The album reached Number 1 on the UK Country Albums chart and Number 4 on the UK Albums Chart. The tour which was associated with the album saw Shania play in almost 100 arenas across the world.
2004 - Shania releases her 'Greatest Hits' album
In November 2004, Shania released her 'Greatest Hits' album. The album contained 17 tracks from her studio albums, with the exception of her debut self-titled album. The album also featured three new tracks, 'Party For Two', 'Don't!' and 'I Ain't No Quitter.'
Shania's 'Greatest Hits' album is certified 3 x Platinum in the UK.
2005 - Shania releases the song 'Shoes'
In September 2005, Shania released the song 'Shoes', which was originally intended for use on the soundtrack for hit TV show Desperate Housewives, but ended up not being included. 'Shoes' charted at Number 29 on the US Hot Country Songs chart.
2005 - Music hiatus
After the release of her Greatest Hits album, Shania decided to take a musical hiatus in 2005. She later experienced vocal difficulties and dysphonia, which is an impaired ability to produce sound due to tightened muscles.
2011 - Shania releases 'Today Is Your Day'
In June 2011, Shania released 'Today Is Your Day', which was her first song release in over six years. The song was released in accompaniment to her American documentary series, Why Not? with Shania Twain.
2011 - Shania receives a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame
Shania pictured on 2nd June 2011 as she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in recognition of her incredible accomplishments. Speaking at the time, Shania said: "I mean, why is a girl from Timmins, Ontario standing here, getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame? I really don't know. Where I come from and where I am today - it's a small miracle to be honest, that I am here today.
"That is the truth of being a star. Our job is to make you happy and entertain you, come thick or thin - and I can tell you that I do that with the greatest of pleasure. Thank you all so much!"
2012 - Las Vegas residency
Shania's epic 'Shania: Still the One' Las Vegas residency began in December 2012. The residency went on until December 2014 and saw Shania perform over 100 times.
The residency was performed at The Colosseum at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada.
2017 - Shania performs at the US Open
Shania performed at the opening ceremony of the US Open tennis tournament at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York City on 28th August 2017. She performed a medley of her greatest hits along with tracks from her album 'Now', which she was preparing to release the following month.
2017 - Shania releases her fifth album following a hiatus
Shania's fifth album 'Now' was released in September 2017. It was the first album to be released after her hiatus from music, which was due to suffering from a severely weakened singing voice as a result of Lyme disease and dysphonia.
'Now' features the singles 'Life's About To Get Good', 'Swingin' With My Eyes Closed', 'We Got Something They Don't' and 'Who's Gonna Be Your Girl'. The album debuted at Number 1 on the UK Albums Chart.
2019 - Shania performs at the American Music Awards
Shania delivered an unforgettable performance at the American Music Awards in November 2019, taking to the stage to perform a medley of her greatest hits. The phenomenal set included covers of songs by Taylor Swift and Post Malone in addition to tracks including 'Still The One' and 'That Don't Impress Me Much.'
2019 - Shania's second Las Vegas residency begins
Shania's second Las Vegas residency 'Let's Go!' began at the Zappos Theatre on 6th December 2019. It was subsequently put on hold as a result of the Covid pandemic and later resumed in December 2021.
2022 - Shania performs with Harry Styles
In April 2022, Shania joined Harry Styles on stage at Coachella Festival, performing her hits 'Man! I Feel Like A Woman!' and 'You're Still The One.'
Speaking to Today, Shania revealed that she met Harry backstage at one of his concerts - with the pair quickly becoming friends. Shania said: "He was just really on his way up when I first met him. We stayed in touch ever since and then he invited me to the Coachella performance. We're just very easy together, it's like we've known each other for a very long time."
2022 - Shania releases her Netflix documentary
Shania's Netflix documentary 'Shania Twain: Not Just a Girl' was released on 26th July 2022 and includes extensive interviews with Shania as she reflects on her life and career. The documentary details Shania's childhood and shares an insight into her journey to stardom.
2022 - Shania receives the Academy of Country Music's Poet's Award
In August 2022, Shania received the Poet's Award during the Academy of Country Music Honours Awards Show in Nashville. The accolade recognised Shania's incredible songwriting talent. Other artists who have received the award include Loretta Lynn, Shel Silverstein and Sonny Throckmorton.
2022 - Shania inducted into Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame
In October 2022, Shania was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in the contemporary songwriter/artist category. The other individuals that were also inducted at the ceremony were Hillary Lindsay, Steve Wariner, Gary Nicholson, David Molloy and the late Chips Moman.
2023 - Shania releases her album 'Queen of Me'
Shania released her sixth studio album 'Queen of Me' in February 2023. The album topped the UK Albums Chart and became Shania's third UK Number 1 album. She also announced that she will be heading to the UK on tour in September 2023.
2023 - Shania becomes a judge on ITV's Starstruck
In February 2023, Shania joined the judging panel on the ITV show Starstruck, appearing alongside fellow judges Adam Lambert, Beverley Knight and Jason Manford. The show is hosted by Olly Murs and sees members of the public transform into their favourite music artists.
2023 - Shania works with Anne-Marie
In May 2023, Shania teamed up with Anne-Marie on the track 'Unhealthy', which features on Anne-Marie's album of the same name. The song became Shania's 12th UK Top 20 single after peaking at Number 18.
2023 - Remastered edition of 'Come On Over' is released
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of 'Come On Over' and the milestone of reaching over 40 million global album sales, both the US and international versions of 'Come On Over' have been remastered and were re-released in August.
2023 - Shania completes 'Queen Of Me' UK tour dates
Throughout September 2023, Shania delighted fans as she completed the UK leg of her 'Queen Of Me' tour. Dates began on Thursday 14th September, with her performing dates in London, Glasgow, Manchester and Birmingham, before finishing the string of shows on Thursday 28th September in Leeds.
2023 - Shania joins Foo Fighters on stage
On 7th October 2023, we got the collab we never knew we needed, as Shania joined rock giants Foo Fighters on stage to belt out their hit 'Best of You'. 2024 - Shania is honoured with her own Barbie doll
To celebrate International Women's Day 2024, a special Shania Twain Barbie doll was released. The doll wears a black top hat and outfit, reminiscent of her 'Man! I Feel Like A Woman!' music video.
