A man in his 60's has died in a single vehicle crash on the A2 Bangor to Belfast dual carriageway.

It happened yesterday afternoon in the Cultra area of Holywood, close to the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum.

Emergency services including the Air Ambulance attended but police say the man died at the scene.

Inspector Adair from the PSNI’s Collision Investigation Unit said, “A man aged in his 60s, the driver of the Hyundai, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.”

“The A2 Bangor to Belfast dual carriageway was closed for a number of hours but has since re-opened.”

“An investigation is ongoing and officers would ask anyone with any information, or who may have dash-cam or mobile phone footage available, to get in contact with them at the Collision Investigation Unit in Sprucefield on 101, quoting reference number 994 09/05/24.”

North Down MLA Andrew Muir said, "Very saddened to learn that a man died after serious road traffic accident on A2 near Holywood."

"My thoughts are with the mans family, friends and loved ones during what will be an incredibly difficult time."

"Thank you to the emergency services for their response today."
