Antrim star Mark Allen is poised to become world snooker's top-ranked player.

It will be the first time in his long career that he has claimed the Number One spot.

It comes courtesy of defeats for Ronnie O'Sullivan and Judd Trump in the World Championship.

The Pistol now tops the provisional end-of-season rankings and cannot be caught.

The official list will be updated on Monday at the end of the World Championship.

Allen will be the first ever world number one from Northern Ireland, and only the 12th player in snooker history to hold that status, following Ray Reardon, Cliff Thorburn, Steve Davis, Stephen Hendry, John Higgins, Mark Williams, Ronnie O'Sullivan, Neil Robertson, Mark Selby, Judd Trump and Ding Junhui.
