GAP boss is not happy after employee refunds shirt which is 17-years-old

A photo of a shirt and waistcoat has gone viral after it was posted on the social news aggregation website Reddit.
The photo clearly shows a notice from management saying 'Who on Earth accepted this as a return?!?!?!?!
'This item is from the summer of 2000! That is almost 17 years ago! Our return policy is 45 days! If you're not sure, ASK!'

The photo has sparked a lot of interest on both Reddit and later on Twitter where a tweet featuring the photo received thousands of retweets before being deleted.
The photo of the XL shirt clearly shows an intact label with the price of $24.50, however a number of people have asked why GAP's till system didn't bring up an error when scanning such an old item, with another user known as xjimbojonesx saying they were amazed a return could be done without a manager's approval.

However tomkel5 commented from their own experience working at GAP saying that at that time GAP's return policy was different, however it has since changed.

Whether the person responsible for the return has owned up is not known, however many commenting on the photo have suggested the manager should be able to check the records to see who logged the return.
