Parents Education as Autism Therapists

The PEAT group hosts family fun days for children affected by autism with help from Cash for Kids

The Parents Education as Autism Therapists charity exists to help children with Autism Spectrum Disorder achiever their full potential. They provide training in Applied Behaviour Analysis to parents, which will enable the parents to be able to teach their children new skills (e.g. social skills, communication skills, self-help and independence skills). They also try to reduce the challenging behaviour the children face including self-injurious behaviour and tantrums. This will all help empower the children to make choices for themselves by providing them with their new skills.

The money granted from Cash for Kids will allow PEAT to host family play days which will involve the hire of a community centre once a month (for ten months over a year). A play area will be set up for the children with autism and their siblings and we will employ supervisors to manage the play time. While the children enjoy themselves having fun and playing, the parents will be able to attend our ABA and autism training session held in an adjacent room with easy access to the play area, and they will have peace of mind that their children where in capable hands.
