Kym Marsh and Simon Gregson open up about their own baby tragedies after heartbreaking Corrie scenes
The storyline is so sad.
As on-screen Coronation Street couple Steve McDonald and his wife Michelle suffer the heartbreak of losing their baby Ruairi at 23 weeks, the real-life heartache of the actors who play Steve and Michelle has been revealed.
In a tweet posted yesterday Simon Gregson who plays Steve revealed that he and his wife Emma have lost 11 babies. Responding to an online troll who had tweeted his wife about the TV storyline he said, 'We’ve lost 11 baby’s 1st being 21 weeks 4 days. Maybe think or do your research before tweeting someone.'
Talking about this sensitive subject Simon said, “Me and Emma have lost children, the first one 21 weeks and four days.
“As a bloke being there and witness to all this, you feel completely helpless. Your wife who’s carried the baby, and has now given birth to the baby and then there’s all the stuff that goes along with being a human being, the chemical reaction, everything that goes on in your brain and the hormones.
“The bloke’s there completely helpless. What’s he supposed to do but support?”
Simon's co-star Kym Marsh, who play's Michelle knows all too well about the subject, having also suffered a miscarriage in 2009 at 21 weeks when she lost her baby, Archie.
In a recent interview with Digital Spy Kym said,
"I just want to say that I am very glad that we chose to do this. The decision to do it was left in my hands."
She continued, "I thought, what better way to raise awareness of this subject and to help people in some way? So that was my reason behind doing it, with the hope that that may happen."
While it was an incredibly hard subject for both Kym and Simon to act they received a lot of support from friends, family and fans including Kym's daughter Emilie who said,
'Can't explain how proud I am of my amazing mummy! You've Done Arch so proud I love you! Both amazing'
After the episode had been aired Kym tweeted saying 'Thank you everyone for their support for me and @simongregson123 was tough for us both but we hope it raises awareness'
