Belfast’s sharp-tongued comedy scene is bustling with comedy geniuses like Shane Todd and Paddy Raff leading the way.

We're a 'wee' nation, famed for great wit and a dark sense of humour, often poking fun at ourselves or others for a laugh.

For an insight into our Northern Irish charm and quirky phrases, you don't have to look too far. Popular TV shows like Derry Girls and Line of Duty have put us firmly on the map.

But do you know someone that could be NI's next rising star? Could they share the stage with names like Colin Geddis or Patrick Kielty?

The search is underway to find the best new stand-up, sketch and digital comedians across the UK in the BBC New Comedy Awards. There's some pretty epic prizes up for grabs, including £1,000 cash and a paid commission for a comedy digital short.

For someone starting out in the world of comedy, this is a very special prize!

There will be six heats across the UK, including Portrush for our Northern Ireland contestants.

If this sounds like something you'd like to take part in, there’s still plenty of time to apply. The closing date has been extended to 22nd August 2021 at 11.59pm.
