Viewers of Gary Barlow's talent show Let It Shine have been left disappointed after it emerged that the winning band will only have a minor role in the musical.

Viewers witnessed Five To Five overcome tough competition from the likes of Drive and Nightfall in the final to be crowned the winning group.

Fans of the show were originally led to believe the five winning male contestants would portray the Take That boys in an upcoming musical.

However, it has now emerged that winning group Five To Five, who are made up of AJ Bentley, Sario Solomon, Curtis T Johns, Nick Carsberg and Yazdan Qafouri, will only feature in the musical as backing singers and will not even speak in the production.

Instead the musical will focus mainly on young girls who are fans of the band.

Upon hearing the news fans took to Twitter to express their disappointment at being misled...

After coming under fire from fans, a statement from the show read:

”With Let it Shine we always said we were casting for a band to appear in a musical based on the music of Take That and they had to be able to sing and dance – like a boyband."

It continued, "The winners will sing and dance to 14 Take That numbers in Gary’s musical. We never said we were casting actors. But they will be front and centre of the musical."

New musical The Band will tour the UK later in the year.

Tickets for the show go on sale on Monday 3rd April at 12 noon.
