Thunder warning in place tomorrow across Northern Ireland

Thunderstorms are likely to develop over parts of Northern Ireland from early Tuesday afternoon, according to the Met Office.

20-30 mm of rain “may fall in an hour or less in a few spots with perhaps 40-50 mm possible if successive showers affect the same location. Frequent lightning is also likely to be a hazard along with hail.”

A yellow weather warning for thunder has been issued for tomorrow (Tuesday 13th June) from 12pm to 9pm.

Tips for staying safe in a thunderstorm

It is safer not to drive in thunderstorms but if you must drive you can do this more safely by:

•Slowing down

•Using main roads

•Using dipped headlights

•Giving yourself more time to react on slippery surfaces

•Keeping a bigger gap between vehicles

Headline: Bright and very warm with a few afternoon showers

Today: Mainly dry start with some sunshine. Showers developing during the morning with a few heavy showers likely in the afternoon. Some areas will remain dry. Staying very warm. Maximum temperature 25 °C.

Tonight: Most showers will die out in the evening to leave a mainly dry and clear night for the area, light winds too. Minimum temperature 12 °C.

Tuesday: A dry and bright morning with a few afternoon showers developing inland but these very isolated, Maximum temperature 27 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday: Mainly dry and settled weather continuing with sunny spells. Temperatures will remain on the warm side. Perhaps showery again on Friday.
