Rea takes second in World Superbikes opener in Barcelona

Jonathan Rea claimed second spot behind commanding winner Alvaro Bautista in the first race of the Catalunya World Superbikes round.

Bautista led throughout to clinch his ninth chequered flag of the season. It also extended his championship lead to 44 points.

Rea was as far back as seventh in the early exchanges, but he battled well to finish runner-up.

Defending champion Toprak Razgatlioglu could only manage fifth.

The Superpole sprint race takes place at 10 o'clock on Sunday morning, followed by race two at one o'clock.
