Players' Championship: McIlroy begins bid to win golf's richest prize
Rory McIlroy gets his Players' Championship campaign under way tonight (Thursday).
The Holywood star is among the late starters at the famous Sawgrass course in Floriday.
The tournament is golf's richest prize - offering a prizewinning purse of $20m - with the winner pocketing an incredible $3.6m.
McIlroy last won the Players in 2019 but last year missed the cut.
He's one of the big favourites to land the first prize this year having posted top-20 finishes in every worldwide event since August.
The World Number 5 believes his game's in good shape and says it is only a matter of time before he gets back to winning ways.
"I just have to stay patient and know that I am playing well enough to get myself into these positions and get into contention," he said.
" You knock on enough doors one will open eventually."
McIlroy tees off just before 6pm our time.
