It’s Good 2 Give supports many young cancer patients in Scotland and their families. It does this in many practical ways including providing snacks and 'parent's packs' to patients and families who are in the oncology ward at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh.

Their biggest project, though, was to create a Ripple Retreat – a place of peace, tranquillity and togetherness for the family during or just after treatment and is also available for bereaved families.

It was important for the charity to make the 2 acre garden space as child friendly as possible and thanks to our wonderful supporters we were able to provide a £10,000 grant from Cash for Kids, several pieces of outdoor play equipment have been purchased. Children going through treatment for cancer often cannot visit play parks and public spaces because their immune systems are so low and the charity wanted to provide a space where the children can play in a safe environment and with their siblings.

Cash for Kids grant allowed the charity to purchase...

Tic Tac Toe

4 in a row

Play Flowers

Tubophone

Puppy the Dog Springer Outdoor Toy

The play equipment allows children to benefit from outdoor play with the wonderful educational and sensory equipment.

In addition to the outdoor play experience, the charity wanted to furnish a Contemplation Room. Cash for Kids funding supported the purchase of relaxation chairs, a reading lamp, a table, an iPod and salt lamp. Making it a space for personal contemplation. This room is in a building separate from the main Retreat and has floor to ceiling glass wall overlooking the Loch.

The contemplation room provides space for parents or teens to enjoy peaceful time away from the noisy hospital environment.

Families have said...

Child: "I liked going on adventures down to the beach and playing on the outside toys – thank you"

Mum: "what a truly special time and place you have created in the Ripple Retreat and we thank you for gifting us a little piece of it."
