July 2015 Grant Round

Cash for Kids want to say a huge thank you to our supporters, because of you we have helped 821 children and granted out £57,233.93 to local children in need this quarter alone!

Here are some of the great local causes we've supported;

Positive Help

Forth’s Cash for Kids supported Positive Help with a grant towards their Befriending Project. This organisation helps children and young people living with HIV/AIDS or Hepatitis C to go on fortnightly trips with a volunteer befriender. The fun and educational trips are designed to support their emotional and social development, so they have a wonderful time on trips, and also build up their ability to cope with the challenges in their lives so they can have more wonderful lives in the future. Trips are chosen by the child and befriender, so are as varied as the children themselves; from ice skating to theatre trips, from picnics to manicures.

Bella and her twin sister have a befriender called Liz, who shares their interest in history. Liz is very imaginative so they’ve had lots of history adventures together. The girls’ Dad is HIV positive and has frequent spells of ill-health, so unfortunately can’t take them on energetic trips. He was delighted to see them happier and healthier because of their walks and outings with Liz. They loved their adventures so much that they both made a scrapbook to remember the fun times.

Jack Craig

We were so happy to be able to help Jack and his family by supporting him with a grant for his mobile hoist, without this Jack and his family were unable to go on holiday together as a family. Jack is a permanent wheelchair user and needs a hoist to get him out of his wheelchair and into bed. Thankfully the team at Cash for Kids were able to buy a mobile hoist for him to take on holidays. The piece of equipment is not provided by the local authority as they already have a permanent track hoist at home. Now Jack and his Family can look forward to going camping or to Jack’s Nanna and Grandad's caravan in Northumberland together.

Jack loves being out and about and with his family; "Thank you so much to everyone that supports Cash for Kids, you have made an unbelievable difference to our lives!"

Louis MacDiarmid

Louis is five years old and was born with spina bifida, hydrocephalus, a brain condition called a Chiari II malformation and is paralysed from the waist down. He relies on a wheelchair to get around. As if that wasn’t enough for Louis to cope with, in April of this year he was also diagnosed with epilepsy and he has also needed brain surgery on three occasions.

Cash for Kids have funded Louis a Kangaroo Bike which will allow him and his 2 brothers to fit on the bike and exercise together, giving them many years of fun and use as they can use the bike until they are 135 cm tall.

"To Cash for Kids and all you lovely people that donate to this wonderful charity a million thank yous. You are literally changing people’s lives for the better and as a family, we can’t thank each and every one of you enough, we will be in touch with some photos as soon as Louis’s new 'chariot' arrives!"
