RaceRunning gives people living with a disability, who may usually be restricted to wheelchairs, the life-changing opportunity to run independently.

Fife has become the latest area in Scotland to form a RaceRunning group, joining seven other established clubs around the country.

The Pitreavie RaceRunning Group meets once a week at Fife Sports and Leisure Trust’s Pitreavie Athletics Centre and has around 20 participants who regularly meet to take part.

With so many participants and limited equipment, Pitrivie RaceRunning Group came to Forth 1's Cash for Kids in need of help to purchase new equipment. Without it, the service would continue to be strained.

However, Cash for Kids were able to change things for Pitrivie RaceRunning Group and this year we funded new equipment meaning more children can access the service and have the freedom to run independantly.

Rachel Robinson, chair of Pitreavie RaceRunning Group, whose own daughter Emma has cerebral palsy and participates in RaceRunning, said: “RaceRunning is a fantastic way for people living with a disability to experience physical activity which significantly impacts on their overall health and wellbeing.

"The trikes are suitable for people aged three-years-old and up – we have a great group of young people regularly taking part and it’s inspirational to see them running with such enthusiasm and joy."
