Miley Cyrus opens up about coming out as Pansexual
Miley has been discussing her sexuality
Singing sensation Miley Cyrus has opened up about the time she came out as a Pansexual and revealed she didn’t understand her gender or sexuality whilst growing up.
Miley, who grew up in the public eye after finding fame as a Disney star, is one of Variety Magazine’s Power of Women cover stars and she didn’t hold back during the interview.
Talking about growing up Pansexual, which means not being limited in sexual choice with regards to sex, gender or gender identity, Miley admitted that she ‘struggled’ to find a label for herself that felt comfortable.
She said, “People may not see me as neutral as I feel. But I feel very neutral... Once I understood my gender more, which was unassigned, then I understood my sexuality more. I was like, 'Oh, that’s why I don’t feel straight and I don’t feel gay. It’s because I’m not."
She went on to add, “My whole life, I didn't understand my own gender and my own sexuality. I always hated the word 'bisexual,' because that's even putting me in a box. I don't ever think about someone being a boy or someone being a girl.”
During the candid interview, the 23-year-old also revealed that her first relationship was actually with a girl, despite growing up in a very religious family.
Miley is now very close to her mum Tish and said she only recently started to understand her choices after a contestant appeared on The Voice USA.
As Miley is now a judge on the hit US show, she said "On The Voice, this young girl started crying when she left, because I'm the reason she came out. My mom started crying. She was like, 'I'm so sorry about the way I was when you were that age and coming out.' She never understood me until she saw that girl who couldn't be herself. It was very cool."
Despite many highs and lows in her love life, Miley is now happy with Australian actor Liam Hemsworth with reports suggesting their engagement is very much back on.
Rumours began to circulate when Miley appeared to be wearing the same ring Liam gave her before their split in 2013.
The 'We Can't Stop' singer uploaded photos of herself to Instagram showing off the diamond, just a week before she was seen moving her belongings into Liam's Malibu home.
The pair started dating back in 2009 after falling in love with each other on the set of The Last Song and seem very much loved up at the minute.
