Actor Tom Hardy recently lost his dearly beloved pet dog Woody, and he has written an emotional message about his 'bestest friend' published on a fan blog.

Buzzfeed are reporting that a representative for the actor has confirmed the post was written by Tom, who has no official social media presence.

In the blog post Tom explains how he first came across Woodstock - known affectionately as Woody - when he was filming Lawless. Woody was just an 11-week-old stray and Tom described the moment saying,

'I watched this thing Running towards the highway in the pitch black making good speed towards the cars and lorries and I remember seeing what were its floppy ears bouncing towards the traffic. That dogs had it I thought.' sic

Later in the post Tom goes on to explain how at just six-years-old Woody was diagnosed with 'aggressive polymyostisis' and after battling for six months he sadly died.

'He was only Age 6. He was Far too young to leave us and We at home are devastated by his loss I am ultimately grateful for his loyal companionship and love and it is of some great comfort that he is no longer suffering. Above all I am completely gutted. the world for me was a better place with him in it and by my side.' sic

Tom and Woody were inseparable with the actor regularly taking him to film premieres and onto film sets, here Tom was filmed with Woody at the Legend premiere in 2015.

Fans have been quick to sympathise with the Mad Max: Fury Road actor tweeting their thoughts.

Tom Hardy stars in the upcoming film Dunkirk, which also stars former One Direction singer Harry Styles. The blockbuster will showcase the real life events that took place in Dunkirk during the early stages of the Second World War.

Dunkirk will be released in cinemas on the 21st July.
