Seventeen Army instructors have denied abusing teenage recruits while on a battle camp in Kirkcudbright.

The former instructors from North Yorkshire will face allegations of kicking, punching and pushing recruits’ heads under water at military court hearings on September 21 and 22.

It follows claims made by six recruits - who were 17 at the time of the alleged attacks - after a three-year military police investigation.

The veterans face a total of 40 charges of battery, ill-treatment and actual bodily harm and could be jailed if found guilty
