A young boy and a woman who died in a road smash in Fife were in the region on holiday.

A young boy and a woman who died in a road smash in Fife were in the region on holiday.

Police have today (6th April) confirmed the identities of the pair.

They were 8 year old Bartek Platcha from Poland and 36 year old Monika Lewandowska-Ritchie from Durham.

The crash - which involved a Ford Focus and an Iveco lorry - happened on the A92 in Kirkcaldy on Monday afternoon.

Another boy - a 9 year old - suffered serious facial injuries.

The lorry driver was uninjured.

The families of Bartek and Monika have released two emotional statements.

Bartek's family said: "Bartek was a much loved and treasured son and brother. He was a very popular boy who touched the hearts of many and will be sadly missed by everyone who knew and cared for him."

Monika's family said: "Monika was a loving wife, mother, sister and daughter who was much loved and will be sadly missed by all who knew and cared for her."
