Elderly residents flee after fire breaks out at Fife nursing home

Elderly residents and staff at a Fife nursing home were forced to flee after a fire broke out today.

Forth Bay Nursing Home in Kincardine was hit by the blaze at around 3.20pm on Monday.

Nine fire engines, two height appliances as well as command support and investigation units were sent to the scene.

The building was evacuated and all residents and staff are accounted for.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted at 3.19pm on Monday August 21 to reports of a fire within a nursing home at George Street, Kincardine.

"There are no confirmed casualties. The SFRS remains in attendance.''

Firefighters used powerful water jets in an effort to bring the blaze under control.

Neighbouring premises in the surrounding streets were also evacuated as a precaution.

Police Scotland asked pedestrians and motorists to avoid the area.
