An escaped prisoner has been re-captured by police in Edinburgh after a five day manhunt.

Jamie Ross gave officers the slip on Tuesday April 23, near the Cameron Toll shopping centre.

The 29 year old was on day release to attend a family funeral, which allowed him to attend the service, but not any attached family gatherings.

A spokesman for prisoner transportation service GEOAmey said earlier this week: "Our officers recognise the emotional significance of events such as funerals and try to show compassion and understanding whilst escorting persons in custody.

"It is therefore disappointing when this is abused and used as an opportunity to evade detention."
