A charity van - which was stolen from its parking space in Leith - has been found in Newhaven.

An appeal to trace the Edinburgh Community Food vehicle launched earlier this week.

Police have welcomed its discovery, but say they still want to know how it got there.

The vehicle was taken from its parking space on Tennant Street some time between 1.30pm on Monday August 9 and 6am the following morning.

The charity normally uses it to deliver fruit and veg to low-income families in the capital - as well as selling produce to hospital patients and their families.

Sergeant Elaine McArthur Kerr, of Leith police station, said: "Edinburgh Community Food relies on its vans to deliver to people and businesses in the city and this theft is a shameful act given that it obviously belongs to a charity.

"This theft has left them seriously inconvenienced and having to hire a replacement."
