Glasgow woman given quarantine hotel exemption over fears she'd miss saying goodbye to dying dad

A Glasgow woman has been given an exemption from hotel quarantine - over fears she'd miss saying goodbye to her dying father.

Claire Herriot flew home from Turkey to visit him at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital but was only allowed to visit while supervised by security guards.

But she said being stuck in a hotel was leaving her on the brink of a mental health crisis.

"The rules are cruel, arbitrary and logically indefensible."

It follows her telling Clyde 1: "Honestly, I feel traumatised. The death of a parent is difficult for anyone and it has just been made so much harder than it needs to be.

"I think the rules are cruel, arbitrary and logically indefensible.

"I don’t understand the reason why I cannot leave this facility, I meet the threshold, in my opinion, that remaining in this hotel quarantine is detrimental to my health.

"I don’t know how high the bar has to be for the Scottish government to understand in trying to access that support, I have found it very difficult and I think I am going to need professional help for years afterwards."

The Scottish Government has now allowed her to stay at her family home instead after ruling her case was "exceptional".

The 39 year old tweeted:

"GREAT NEWS! I am no longer required to quarantine at the hotel. Thank you to everyone who covered the story, to everyone who's been in touch to support and to @scotgov for the decision. I'll be isolating at home, testing on day 8 and visiting my dad. Peace and love. Claire x"
