Investigation launched after 28 headstones vandalised in Whitburn Cemetery

Callous yobs targeted the graveyard yesterday.

Police in West Lothian are asking for help from the public after twenty-eight headstones were vandalised in a local graveyard.

The incident happened yesterday afternoon in Whitburn Cemetery on Manse Road.

Community Constable Carol-Ann Wilson said: "The damage to the headstones is estimated to be in excess of £8000.

"We are working with West Lothian Council to identify the owners of the headstones.

"We are currently speaking to a number of witnesses and following a positive line of inquiry.

"However we are still keen to hear from anyone who can help us identify the owners or who has information that can otherwise assist with our inquiries."
