Man in hospital after being knocked down by bus in Edinburgh city centre

A 26-year-old man has been taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh after being hit by a bus in the city centre this afternoon.

It happened around 3:40pm on Friday when emergency services were called to Lothian Road at the junction with Princes Street.

A spokesman from the Scottish Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 1534 hours to attend a road traffic incident on Lothian Road, Edinburgh.

"We dispatched a rapid response unit and an ambulance to the scene and a male patient was taken to the Royal Infirmary Edinburgh.”

Hospital staff describe the man's condition as stable. The driver and passengers on the bus were not injured.

Police are appealing for information about the incident.

Sergeant Jennifer Forbes, of the divisional road policing unit, said: Our enquiries are ongoing into the cause of the crash and I would ask anyone with information that may assist our investigation to telephone 101 quoting reference number 2450 of October 25."
