When you think of Scotland what do you think of? Well, Castles and kilts are more likely to come to mind than snorkelling.

But the Scottish Wildlife Trust is hoping to change all that by creating the country’s first snorkel trail in the Northwest Highlands. A total of nine spots along the coast line have been named prime locations to view all the marine life there is like dogfish, barrel jellyfish and sea urchins. Noel Hawkins of the trust's Living Seas project said, “The coast of Wester Ross and Sutherland features some fantastic sheltered headlands and beaches that are great places for snorkelling.” He went on to say that although the trail is self-led, there are plans for more development of the regions snorkelling, “We are hoping to establish a training program for local people to become qualified snorkel instructors”

It's a great oppertunity to introduce little ones to snorkelling and get them interested in life under the water just off of our shores. Ready? Then grab your wetsuit and take advantage of the warmer water temperatures during the summer months. For all the latest discounts and where to stay, go to Forth 1 Escapes.
