Two die in major road accident on the A68 Dalkeith bypass

A man and a woman have died in a three vehicle road accident in Midlothian.

The collision happened on the A68 Dalkeith bypass just north of Pathhead at 3:15am this morning (8th July).

The pair - who were travelling together - were pronounced dead at the scene.

Another man's been taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where he's in a serious condition.

Inspector Neil Mitchell based at Dalkeith Police Station said: "Emergency services attended a three-vehicle road traffic collision on an approach road to the Edinburgh city bypass north of Pathhead, which has resulted in the deaths of two people and left another with serious injuries. "Inquiries into the full set of circumstances are ongoing.

"I wish to thank motorists and members of the local community for their cooperation and patience while we carry out this vital work.

"I also appeal to anyone who was travelling in the area and who witnessed this collision to contact police immediately on 101 if not already done so."
