One of the undisputed joys of living in our amazing city of Edinburgh, is the beautifully rural spots for getting out and about. The Scots who enjoy the rural riches the most, are of course our four-legged friends!

All dog owners know the importance of finding the right walking spot; there are so many things to consider, and what is pet perfect, may not be person perfect.

If you’re a dog walker in the Edinburgh area, you will already have a favourite, but here are ten cracking walks we think you will love.

Cramond Beach

A spacious wide beach, Cramond Beach spans several miles and offers a great walk for dogs. If the beach walk is too short for your furry friend, there are grassy areas at Silverknowes for more exercise.

Yellowcraig Beach

Yellowcraig Beach is another cracker for dogs and walkers alike. Situated near Dirleton village, this popular spot offers beautiful woodlands and grassy areas, plus a nature trail. There are dog walks away from the beach and dog bins and bowls are provided. You will also be treated to a view of the Fidra Lighthouse which is was built in 1885.

Hermitage of Braid and Blackford Hill

A local nature reserve, Hermitage of Braid is a rich expanse of land which walkers and dogs will equally appreciate. The views are incredible as you would expect, and you can walk to the observatory. Blackford Hill nestled in The Hermitage estate rewards you with fantastic views of the city.

Arthur’s Seat

We all admire our iconic landmark Arthur's Seat. For dogs and their walkers however, it is an absolute treat. Thanks to its volcanic peak at 251 metres, you can choose between a short amble or a full hour-long trek. The effort will be rewarded with a magnificent view of our city.

Cammo Estate

A lovely short saunter, Cammo Estate is a great hidden gem where you feel in the middle of nowhere. Both you and your favourite friend will walk through the estate which sits in 85 acres of land looked after by Edinburgh Council. There is a lovely view of Cammo Tower and it's easy to get to by bus or car. Drivers can park for free on Cammo Walk.

Portobello Beach

Approximately three miles from Edinburgh's city centre, Portobello Beach is a very popular spot. The beach is great for dogs being both wide and long, perfect for running around. It becomes even more dog-friendly towards the Seafield end. Portobello Beach even offers vendors selling doggie treats when your pal needs a pick-me-up.

Inverleith Park

Inverleith Park is one of those incredible green spaces in the midst of the city, nestled amongst the urban landscape. A walk through the park treats you to a pond spotted with swans, and lovely tree-lined paths. It's a tail-waggingly-good walk!

Corstorphine Hill

Corstorphine Hill is another local nature reserve, with so much to offer. It is 340 million years old and full of woodland. Dogs enjoy the fun of the woods and can then roam free on the hillside. The hill is home to Corstorphine Tower, a memorial to Sir Walter Scott.

Roslin Glen

Roslin Glen is a slightly less well-known spot for walkers, but dog lovers in particular treasure this area. Steeped in history, the Glen boasts a castle, a river and a chapel. There is a large car park, making it easy to get there before you stretch your and your dogs' legs.

Whichever corner of our Edinburgh you hail from, and regardless of whether your doggy friend prefers the beach to the grass, there is an incredible walk for you all to enjoy. Grab your leash and go, it’s nearer than you think.
