The mum of a newborn baby found abandoned in a park in Birmingham has been found by police after an eight month search.

Baby 'George' was discovered wrapped in a blanket by a dog walker at The Mounds in Kings Norton on the 22nd April. Officers believed him to be just hours old at the time.

West Midlands Police, say they identified his mother after pursuing "over 1,000 lines of enquiry". The force thanked the public and media for their help in finding the mother, describing the "overwhelming" response as "instrumental" in their search.

The force says George is "doing really well and is being well cared for".

A statement released last night read;

"As stated in our public appeals, our priority was always to ensure mom was safe and supported. We can confirm that no further action will be taken by us and, with partners, we are ensuring that she is getting the appropriate support and care she needs.

"This is a very upsetting case, we would ask you not to speculate any further, as this is deeply distressing for those concerned."

The force said George was "doing really well and is being well cared for".
