A Birmingham teacher at the centre of a row over diversity lessons in Birmingham is up for a major award.

Andrew Moffat's worked as a full-time teacher for more than 20 years.

He created the "No Outsiders" training programme for teachers to use in lessons.

It teaches children about things like same-sex marriage and immigration.

But there have been protests outside some schools in Birmingham against the lessons.

Parents say they're not age appropriate - but Ofsted say they are.

An open meeting was also held to reassure the LGBTQ+ community after the demonstrations.

By September 2020, Relationships Education for primary pupils and Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) for secondary school pupils will be compulsory.

We caught up with Andrew about the news he'd been nominated for 'Hero of the Year' at the European Diversity Awards:
