A boat horn at Aberdeen Harbour set an early alarm clock for residents around the south of Aberdeen this morning.

At around 3am, a boat's emergency signal sounded for about 20 minutes due to an electrical fault on one of the vessels in the dry dock.

Seven short horns followed by a longer horn sounded in a loop, causing residents in Torry to panic with some taking to social media to say it was "terrifying" to wake up to.

One resident said it sounded like "an end of the world alarm" with others claiming it caused their dogs to bark in the middle of the night.

False alarm

The coastguard confirmed no one was called out to the incident.

The Port of Aberdeen has said it was due to an electrical fault and there was no damage or safety issues.
