Aberdeen interim manager Peter Leven insisted despite the focus on who will succeed him in the dugout at Pittodrie, his focus is on this game on Saturday.

He claimed to still be in the dark about the appointment of a permanent replacement, but did reveal he expects to be updated on his future in a meeting with senior staff on Monday.

Jimmy Thelin speculation

The 46-year-old Elfsborg head coach is widely reported to be joining the Dons in June, replacing Barry Robson who was sacked in January.

Asked what advice he has for any new manager, first team coach Leven said: "It is a great club, a huge club and it has potential to go even higher.

"Obviously you've seen that this season with the games in Europe, a Viaplay Cup final and Scottish Cup semi-final, so anybody coming in, it is a great club."

The Dons hope to round off the week that has been dominated by VAR controversy and Jimmy Thelin speculation, with a win over Dundee.

Top six contenders Dundee will be no easy game for the Dons, but the manager remains confident his team will have enough to get what they need from the game.

“They’ve got good players but it’s all about what we do. We’re in good form as well unbeaten in three, won two and drawn one, so we’ve got a wee bit of momentum” Leven told media on Friday.

Midfielder Leighton Clarkson is aware of the challenge they will be met with “especially in the middle” of the park.

He noted the last time they played the Dundee side, it was “one of our worst performances of the season”.

A disappointing draw with Dundee the last time they visited Pittodrie in January was what pushed the club to cut ties with Barry Robson.

VAR controversy

It is not only managerial change that the Dons are seeking, after a statement was issued by the club earlier in the week claiming VAR was unfit for purpose in Scotland.

After a controversial decision to rule out Bojan Miovski’s 92nd minute goal against Livingston was ruled out, with the club saying officials had to “guess” whether the call was right due to the calibrated lines not working.

Leighton Clarkson didn't hold back, calling VAR "a joke".

He said: “It’s another decision that’s gone against us. VAR was brought in to make obvious calls and these aren’t obvious. If VAR stops working, how can you guess, so many questions.”
