Drivers heading to and from Scotland’s sea gateway to Northern Ireland at Cairnryan will be sent on a major diversion next weekend as the A77 is closed.

The crucial trunk road link between Stranraer and Glasgow will be blocked off at Glenapp to allow workers to remove dangerous trees affected by the Ash Dieback disease.

The work will be carried between the hours of 7:30am and 7pm, on Saturday 25th March and Sunday 26th March 2023.

Long diversion route

Drivers will be instructed to used a long diversion route south of Girvan using the twisty A714 to reach the outskirts of Newton Stewart, then joining the A75 to return to the A77 north of Stranraer.

The A77 will be reopened for Monday and Tuesday with traffic lights in place at the work site at Glenapp.

Amey, which manages the route for Transport Scotland, says access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout the works.
