Multiple roads in Ayr will be effectively closed for a time as a mass rally for Scottish independence makes its way through the town centre.

Around 2000 people are expected to gather in Ayr this afternoon to march, starting at the esplanade.

Police in the area have warned there could be some disruption on roads as the procession moves through the town.

Pro-independence rally organisers All Under One Banner will carry out their third march of the year and will have a number of politicians taking part.

SNP MP for North Ayrshire Patricia Gibson is expected to attend alongside Alba member Corri Wilson, and former regional MSP now Alba member Tommy Sheridan.

The procession is set to start at 12:30, with people gathering from 11am at Beach Car Park next to the esplanade.
