Man charged with attempted murder after armed police response in Kincaidston

A 29-year-old man arrested and charged with attempted murder in Ayr has been named as Culzean McCulloch.

A man has appeared in court today after being arrested and charged in connection with an incident in the Kincaidston area last week.

On Friday 15 December reports emerged of local residents being told to stay in their homes as armed police were called to the area.

Videos on social media showed a number of officers outside a property armed with guns.

Greatest Hits Radio has been told Police were called to reports of a 24-year-old man assaulted within a flat on Campion court.

The victim of the assault was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University hospital in Glasgow.

It has now been confirmed that a 29-year-old who was arrested in connection with the incident has been charged with attempted murder and due in Ayr Sheriff Court this afternoon.

The Crown Office has now revealed the 29-year-old is Culzean McCulloch from Ayr.

He appeared in Ayr Sheriff Court this afternoon charged with assault to severe inury, permanent disfigurement, danger of life and attempted murder. McCulloch entered no plea as was deferred for further examination. He will appear in court again within the next eight days.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 10.30am on Friday, 15 December, police were called to a report of a 24-year-old man assaulted within a flat on Campion Court, Ayr.

“Officers attended and their enquiries led them to a flat in nearby Marguerite Place, where a 29-year-old man was arrested in connection with this incident.

“The injured 24-year-old man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

"The 29-year-old man has now been charged in connection with an alleged attempted murder and is due to appear at Ayr Sheriff Court on Monday, 18 December 2023.
