Multiple ferry services in North Ayrshire have been cancelled this morning as Storm Pia continues.

CalMac services between Brodick and Ardrossan have all been cancelled due to the high winds on the coast.

The ferry operator was due to have sailings at 7am,9:45am, 12:30pm from Arran, and three others departing Ardrossan at 8:20am, 11:05am, and 1:55pm. However, they are now warning all other sailings remain at high risk of being cancelled.

A review is to take place later on today.

A spokesperson said: “There will be a review at approx 15:00 (21/12/23) in relation to the possibility of sailings in the afternoon although it should be noted that the forecast remains very poor.”

Storm Pia prompted the Met Office to issue a yellow weather warning earlier this week, and it remains in place until 3pm today.

With winds of up to 50mph, the storm has been making travel across the region difficult for commuters.

Train services have been disrupted with some in the area having to slow down due to the winds.

Police in Ayrshire have also issued a warning to anyone travelling today. They’ve asked drivers to avoid the roads unless absolutely necessary.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Drivers of vehicles vulnerable to being blown over should plan their route to avoid exposed areas or consider cancelling your journey until conditions improve.

"Cyclists, motorcyclists and pedestrians should consider the risk of being blown over or into the path of other road users."
