Anya Shrubsole honoured in Somerset Cricket Legends Wall
She's the first female player to be permanently honoured at the Cooper Associates County Ground
A fifth name has been added to Somerset County Cricket Club's Legends Wall - and she's the first female player to be permanently honoured at the Cooper Associates County Ground.
Anya Shrubsole, who was born and Bath and was only 12 year old when she made her debut for the side, took 89 wickets in 71 List A matches for Somerset with a best of seven for 28 and went on to make her England debut in 2008.
She was also the first girl to join the Somerset Academy when she was 13.
In total, Anya made 173 international appearances across the formats, taking a total of 227 wickets for her country.
Back in 2014, she was named Player of the Tournament at the ICC Women's World T20 competition.
She was also named player of the match as England lifted the World Cup trophy at Lord’s in 2017.
Anya became the first woman to appear on the cover of the Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack and was one of Wisden’s Cricketers of the Year in 2018.
The Legends Wall is being made as part of the build-up for their 150th anniversary celebrations in Somerset - and it'll be unveiled at an event on April 18th.
