A woman in her 20s has died in a car crash in Evercreech, near Shepton Mallet.

Avon and Somerset Police say they were called to the A371 at Arthurs Bridge at around 8am this morning (January 4) after two vehicles collided.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, with officers now appealing for witnesses to come forward.

"Our thoughts are with her family at this time, who are being supported by a specially trained family liaison officer," a statement from the force reads.

The road was closed in both directions while investigations were carried out, but it has since reopened.

Anyone who saw what happened and/or has dashcam footage from the area around the time of the crash, is asked to call 101 and quote the reference number 5223001826.

It comes on the same day as a disused factory in Evercreech has gone up in flames.

Devon and Somerset Fire Service say they were called to that at around 1:20pm.

You can read more about that incident here.

There is no suggestion that the fire and the crash are linked.
