29-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of murdering child in Hemel Hempstead

A 29 year old woman has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a two year old child In Hemel Hempstead.

An investigation is underway by the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit and she remains in police custody at this time.

Hertfordshire Police were called to an address in Juniper Square at 4.40pm yesterday (Sunday 14 April) to assist with a medical emergency, alongside the ambulance service.

Officers from the Armed Policing Unit were also dispatched to the scene to provide specialist first aid equipment which they carry in their vehicles.

A two year old was taken to hospital for emergency treatment but unfortunately died a short time later.

Residents have been told to expect an ongoing police presence in Juniper Square.

They say that they understand this news will be very distressing to the local community. Officers remain in the area and anyone who has concerns can speak with them. Colleagues from the Dacorum Community Safety Partnership have been informed and are supporting enquiries.

A spokesperson said: "An extensive investigation is under way to establish the circumstances around what happened. With this in mind, it's absolutely vital that people please refrain from speculating about what happened, to allow the investigation and any subsequent court proceedings to take place. Any commentary could have a serious detrimental impact".
