Aylesbury school forced to partially close due to positive coronavirus cases
Year 11's and 20 staff members at Aylesbury Vale Academy have been affected
A school in Aylesbury is having to partially close due to a number of positive coronavirus cases.
All Year 11 students at Aylesbury Vale Academy are self-isolating until 10th December, as well as 20-members of staff.
Due to the amount of teachers this has affected, the school is now on a daily teaching rota for Years 7,8,9, and 10.
A letter has been sent to all parents from Principal Mr Gibson.
It says:
"Dear Parents and Carers
As you know, yesterday we informed you that two Year 11 students and two members of staff had received a positive test result for COVID 19. Since then, we have been notified of one more Year 11 testing positive.
In response to these cases, we have consulted with the Department for Education and the Local Authority. In all consultations, student and staff safety have been our priority.
Based on the information and guidance we received, we have carried out the following steps:
- We have contacted all Year 11 students who may have been in close contact during the time when the positive cases were infectious. These students now have to self-isolate and can return to school on 10 December
- As well as these students, 20 members of staff (18 teachers and 2 members of Support Staff) are also currently in or entering self-isolation for the appropriate period of time. This is three more members of staff since yesterday."
Teaching rota
The letter goes on to say that due to the amount of teachers that have been affected the school is "unable to support continued teaching for all year groups" and a daily rota has been put in place for the other year groups.
Principal, Mr Gibson, has told us they are doing their absolute best to stay open and have followed guidance from the Department for Education and Public Health England.
He continues in the letter:
"We recognise and apologise for the disruption this will cause but this difficult decision has not been taken lightly and will enable us to balance the educational needs of students alongside health and safety."
