New traders are being encouraged to look at opening in Aylesbury Town Centre this year.

In 2020 lots of events usually held in Aylesbury town centre had to be cancelled, and others were held in completely different ways.

But, the hope is that with the days getting longer and the vaccine roll out in full force at least a few will be able to be held this year.

Diana Fawcett, Aylesbury's Town Centre and Regeneration Manager told us about the hopes for 2021:

"We are optimising now there is a vaccine on the horizon that we can start to think about doing some of the activities we would usually do.

"So the Whizzfiz festival, the Waterside Festival, switching on the Christmas lights... All the things that people enjoy doing.

"Our priority for the traders and customers is on in the same safety.

"We are one of the few markets in the UK that kept operating in the first lockdown, and we broken in barriers, social distancing markers etc.

"So for us its all about peoples safety."

Currently Buckinghamshire is in Tier 4, which does affect the operations of retail establishments.

But Diana said she has a clear message for businesses thinking of moving to the town centre:

"Nationally and internationally we saw a big change into the way people were shopping.

"It has changed the way people have been shopping and when. We have been trying to combat that, with activities and safety protocols.

"So, I would say 'Aylesbury is open'.

"If you want to come and trade on the market we have great incentive packages.

"It's a great place to trial new products and see custoemr reaction.

"Alternatively, if you're interested in one of the empty units that we have as some big nationals move out, there are some wonderful opportunities to take them up that would have never happened before."
