Former Bucks County Hall to become 46 flats?

The plans are being decided on this afternoon (Thurs)

Plans to turn Aylesbury's old County Hall into a block of flats are being debated today.

46 apartments could be created inside the old council offices on Walton Street - after they sat abandoned for over six years.

The planning document says:

"The resurrection of the Old County Office building for new active use is seen as the next positive step in the renewal of the town centre and in particular the town hall quarter.

"The proposition described in this document is to therefore sensitively repair and refurbish the celebratory and historic front façade to the building and to create a complementary and high quality new response to the rear façade."

The former offices were demolished to make space for the 'temporary' Waterside North car park in 2014.

Plans also show another three potential blocks in the future, on top of the car park.

At the moment, the application only appears to be for the existing building facing Walton Street.

The rear of the Old County Hall was demolished to make way for the 'temporary' car park when The Exchange was built.

If the three extra buildings happen, the plans show a public open space/route from Exchange Street up behind the old council building and into town.

It's expected the Council will approve this scheme at a meeting this afternoon.
