A man has been sentenced for causing death by dangerous driving in Northchurch in 2017.

Ased Ashfaq, aged 38, of Fennycroft Road, Hemel Hempstead, pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving after Kasey-Lee Burch died following a collision with the driver in Northchurch in 2017.

On Wednesday 11th October 2017 Ashfaq was driving a VQ Transporter van along the High Street when he struck the 9-year-old.

The police investigation found that he was entering a postcode into a navigation app on his mobile phone at the time of the collision, which resulted in him failing to react to Kasey-Lee crossing the road.

Kasey-Lee suffered a traumatic head injury and sadly on October 22nd 2017 died from this injury.

Ashfaq was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment at St Alban's Crown Court last Tuesday (08/12).

He was also disqualified from driving for five and a half years, after which he will be required to take an extended re-test.

PC David Burstow, of the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said:

“This is an utterly tragic collision which highlights the absolute requirement of every driver to concentrate fully whilst driving.

“The devastating loss of Kasey-Lee will have a lasting effect on family and friends and our thoughts remain with them.”
