Detectives from the North Herts Crime Unit are currently investigating an incident in which a 13 year old boy was assaulted by a group of youths in Letchworth.

The incident happened yesterday (Tuesday 22 March) in the Garden Square Shopping Centre, between 5.45pm and 6.10pm.

Officers say the victim was allegedly walking away from the group with his friends, when he was pushed to the ground and assaulted.

The victim suffered serious injuries as a result and is currently being treated in hospital.

Detectives also believe that two friends of the victim were also assaulted during this incident.

Detective Inspector Neil Watts said: “This was a serious assault which has left a 13-year-old boy in hospital. Enquiries are in hand to identify those responsible and I want to reassure local residents that this kind of behaviour will not be tolerated in Letchworth.

“We have stepped up local patrols in the town centre to deter any similar behaviour and are appealing for anyone with any information relating to this assault to contact us immediately. If you witnessed the fight or have any other information which may help our investigation, please get in touch.”
