There may be more value being placed on more intimate weddings in Hertfordshire, as people re-assess their priorities following a rise in small-scale ceremonies taking place successfully over the course of the pandemic.

While the county is an idyllic spot for grander ceremonies, with an array of wedding locations on offer to couples in Hertfordshire to make their day look and feel as special as possible

Less might be more

There are a number of pubs in Hertfordshire that are offering their spaces as wedding venues which have become more popular since the pandemic. When lockdown restrictions meant that people could only invite their nearest and dearest, many opted to stay local with wedding celebrations taking place in their favourite small venues, or even their back garden.

Jun Tan is a wedding photographer based in Milton Keynes and has spotted a trend in the amount of people looking to hold more intimate ceremonies. He said:

“I’ve been having enquiries of smaller weddings; people are asking about allotments, so just two of them getting married and just having very close family around them.”

He also noted that it gives couples a chance to focus on what they really want out of the day instead of trying to please dozens of guests. He added:

“It makes it more about the bride and groom. It’s not for them to please everyone. If they focus on them and make it their own wedding, it will be more special for them.

While some couples might be opting for a less flamboyant day to enjoy quality time with each other, it is also a more affordable option, with the average wedding the UK reportedly costing around £20,000.

The social media and image-sharing platform Pinterest has seen a 160% rise in people searching for ideas on ‘small back garden weddings', so it really does seem like little is the new large when it comes to wedding-planning.
