A Hertfordshire psychologist says a lack of confidence following lockdown is impact some people.

As the end of coronavirus restrictions looms, a major crisis of self-confidence is being uncovered with new research revealing four in ten UK adults feel nervous about being seen in public.

According to report commissioned by The 1:1 Diet by Cambridge Weight Plan 81% of people they spoke so said they have gained weight during the pandemic.

With more than a third (36%) saying they feel that friends and family members judge people if they have gained weight during the pandemic.

Andre Radmall is a psychotherapist, and life coach based in St Albans:

"People are worried how others will view them based on their appearance but also its the disorientation of being in a bubble for so long and being only seen on line.

"From only being seen on zoom and only part of them then coming out of that can be quite stressful for some people.

"One of the key steps is to go slowly. Take it a step at a time and don't force yourself to go to big gatherings.

"But also be kind to yourself and actually be a bit more vulnerable because everyone else is in some way."

The findings come following a prolonged period of remote working and virtual socialising, during which nearly half (46%) admit to having consciously attempted to make themselves look slimmer ‘on screen’.
