A man has been convicted of murder following the death of a man who was assaulted at an underpass.

Wesley Atick, 26, pleaded guilty to the murder of John Davies in Milton Keynes at Oxford Crown Court on Friday (April 19th), after John was the victim of an assault in October.

On Monday, October 23rd last year, Thames Valley Police had received reports of an altercation at the underpass underneath Groveway and Newport Road in the Wavendon Gate area of the town.

Davies, who was 34 and from Glebe Farm in Milton Keynes, received serious injuries and was taken to hospital, where he died three days later on October 26th.

An examination on Davies' body carried out by the Home Office found that he had died as a result of blunt force trauma to his head and face.

Officers arrested Atick and charged with the murder of the man on October 25th, with him being held in police custody until the hearing.

Following the plea hearing, Atick has remanded in police custody and will be sentenced at Oxford Crown Court on May 24th.

Speaking on the case, Detective Chief Inspector Will Crowther from Thames Valley Police paid tribute to Davies' family, adding: "To lose someone in such a horrific manner is unimaginable, and my thoughts remain with them.

“I am glad that Atick has pleaded guilty for a crime that we still don’t know why he committed. This was a brutal and horrific attack, after which Atick left the scene. He left John on the floor with injuries, and never sought help for him."

As well as this, the officer described Atick as "a dangerous man", who is now "no longer a threat to the public".

He finished: "Thames Valley Police will never tolerate violence in its communities and will always seek to bring offenders like Wesley Atick to justice."
