The MP for Aylesbury has hit out at HS2 protesters who've barricaded themselves inside a tunnel in Buckinghamshire.

“I fully understand the opposition to HS2 locally, and have continually raised local people's concerns in Parliament and with ministers. The loss of precious ancient woodland is especially worrying. So I completely respect the right of protestors to make their feelings known. However, I cannot condone the unlawful and violent protest that has sometimes occurred at the Small Dean site. I have been particularly alarmed by the aggression and abuse shown to HS2 staff, which in some cases has led to injury to people who are just doing their jobs.

“The fact is that HS2 now has the right to this land, however much we regret the overall HS2 project. I have been in touch with the HS2 minister to ensure that safety is paramount during the eviction process.

“I have been assured that HS2 Ltd and its contractors are working with specialist security staff, Thames Valley Police, British Transport Police, and Bucks Council to protect workers and to safely remove protestors from the construction site.”

Bailiffs say it could take weeks to evict the group who've set up camp in Wendover.
