Buckinghamshire travel schemes will have to apply for a share of the funding.

The Government have announced funding for cycle and walking schemes across the country, with £1,738,000 going to Buckinghamshire.

The nearly 2 million pounds will go towards funding schemes to make the travel methods safer and more accessible for people to choose.

This include looking at how to support the active travel methods and reduce traffic on roads.

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said:

"It has been great to see so many people build cycling and walking into their daily travel habits. To support them, we know it’s vital to have the right infrastructure in place so everyone – cyclists, pedestrians and motorists – can use our roads.

"Whether you’re walking, cycling, driving or using public transport, people must have the space they need to get around safely."

Schemes will have to apply for a portion on the funding and a consultation will he held before any money is granted.
